What minimal permission does a user require to create baseline and assign baseline in a Project in Primavera P6
The Project security profile in Primavera P6 controls what level of access a user can have a Projects. We can create multiple Project Profile settings we want, For example: ‘Read Only Access’ or ‘Super Admin Access’ or any ‘Custom level access’.
The OBS in p6 is a Manager responsible for one or more projects. The Project Profile controls the level of permission to those projects.
There are no options available to assign projects to a user. It should be ‘OBS’ plus a ‘Project Profile’. The OBS (Manager) has access to a list of projects and Project Profile contains the level of permission to those projects.
In this section, I have detailed the minimal Project Security Profile settings requires for a user to create baseline and assign baseline for a Project. We do this by creating a Project Security Profile and assign it to a user.
1. Create a Project Security Profile
Her Below I have created a Project Security Profile with minimum settings required to create and assign Baseline.
1.1) I have the following Project Security Profile ‘View Project Data’ in my P6. First, I enabled Edit Project Details Costs/Financials under EPS and
Projects tab so that this profile has Edit access to project
1.2) Next, the following options must be checked under Project Data tab in Project Security Profile
Add/Edit/Delete Project Baselines => Provides access to user to Create, Edit and Delete a baseline to a Project
Assign Project Baselines => Provides access to user to Assign a baseline to a project
1.3) Finally, the Check In/Check Out Projects and Open Projects Exclusively must be checked to support Assign baseline
2. Assign the above Project security profile to a user
Here below I have assigned the above-created Project profile with an OBS to a user. The OBS is a Responsible Manager access to some projects.
2.1) The above Project Security Profile is assigned to a user ‘govind’
2.2) Logged out and Logged in as above user ‘govind’; Opened a project and selected Define Baseline under Actions tab
Note: The Define Baseline only enable if you opened the project
2.3) The Define Baselines dialog box opened on the screen. Now click on the Add button to Define Baseline and double-click on the Project Baseline column to assign baseline.
