090317_0122_AboutPrimav1 About Primavera P6 Modules

Primavera P6 modules are part of User Administration. As you seen in the above picture, Primavera P6 segregated the individual functionality into Modules. Each module in P6 will solve a cohesive purpose. At the minimum, A user must require one of the following modules to log in to P6 web. Except for Contributor, P6 EPPM has a separate TAB for the below modules which is shown In the below image:

1. Projects

2. Portfolios

3. Resources

4. Enterprise Report

5. Contributor

As you notice in the first image, each module is dedicated to the corresponding user. A programmer does not require access to P6 Professional or Team member access. In this section, I have explained the purpose of Primavera P6 modules

1. Project Module

Determines the user can access the Project Tab. This includes Projects, Activities, Workspace, Issues, Risks, Team Usage, and Documents. Also, the user doesn’t have this module can’t see project specific portlets like ‘Project performance’,  ‘My Workflow’ in dashboards. P6 implantation consultant or Business user requires this module access

3. Enterprise Report Module

5. Contributor Module

A user having Contributor module has limited functionality to Project and Dashboard tab in P6. The access right is depending on the OBS the user has, user as activity owner or assigned to a resource. You must unselect all other module access to select contributor access. Think like the user is contributing to the project.

6. P6 Professional Module

P6 Professional for EPPM is an optional desktop client. Almost all the p6 Web functionality is available in P6 Professional except the enterprise reports. Although it has it own reports module. The visualizer Is a part of P6 Professional. P6 professional has some unique feature like What-If functionality, Global Change, Check- in and Check-out for Offline use, etc . Having this module provides extra strength to P6. It’s a client application so every user must install P6 Professional separately. P6 implantation consultant or Business user requires this module access to run reports

7. Visualizer Module

Determined user access to Visualizer. It is part of P6 Professional that I have explained above. Report developer requires this module access

8. P6 Analytics Module

Determine the user to access P6 Analytics application. It’s an OBIEE application sits outside of P6 web. Report developer can create dashboards using the Facts and Dimension tables. It’s a OLAP technology for analytical processing. P6 implantation consultant, Business user and Report developer requires this module access to run reports

9. Team Member Module

Activity status update application. The user can update their status through Team member web application, Android/IOS mobile app, or through Email. Check the below link for an example

How to update status of an activity using Team Member

10. Timesheet Module

It’s a timesheet application where user fills their timesheets. It’s a part of Team member. This module determines the user can access the timesheet in team member

11. Integration API Module

Java developer requires this module access. User can create custom development like web application, batch jobs by connecting to the Integration API through LOCAL or REMOTE mode.

12. Web Services Module

The Primavera functionality is exposed through SOAP services which uses SOAP, WSDL and XML standards. It is independent of programming language so any developer can use Web Service and connect to P6. For example, BPM Developers, BPEL developers requires this module access to build workflow or custom processes. Sometimes, p6 consultant also requires this module access or the API one to have the same P6 access levels in the custom developed applications.
