    Hi,
    Thank you for this useful tutorial.
    I did everything well but when i tried to connect, i had a tns error,
    SQL> connect [email protected]
    ERROR:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

    how could i fixe this error please ?

    Thanks

    • Govindan Padmanaban

      Connection to the listener is failing . Try the following approach

      1. Try connect with its identifier like below. Replace XE with your identifier
      SQL > connect [email protected]@XE

      2. if above not works, try to add a tns-entry like below in your tnsnames.ora (example location: C:oraclexeapporacleproduct11.2.0servernetworkADMINtnsnames.ora)

      XE =
      (DESCRIPTION =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
      (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVER = DEDICATED)
      (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
      )
      )

      3. Open a command prompt and input the following command and check it returns ‘OK’

      c:> tnsping xe

      • mouldblal

        First thank you for your response.
        I tried the three solutions that you suggest but none works.
        I changed the tnsname.oa and the ping tnsping xe works well, I had OK response.

        But when i tried to connect again,
        connect [email protected]@XE
        i’ve got this error,
        SQL> connect [email protected]
        ERROR:
        ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

        • Govindan Padmanaban

          Check the listener status by the following command in command prompt

          lsnrctl start

          Also check the Oracle listener ( ex: ‘OracleXETNSListener’) has started status in Windows serviecs.

          • mouldblal

            C:>lsnrctl start

            LSNRCTL for 64-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.2.0 – Production on 15-D╔C. -2016 16:05:55

            TNS-01106: Listener using listener name LISTENER has already been started

            C:>

            Oracle Listener status is started in Windows services.

            But the error still the same,
            when i tried to connect :
            SQL> connect [email protected]
            ERROR:
            ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

            • Govindan Padmanaban

              1. Check in the below command o/p has ( TCP 0.0.0.0:1521 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING)

              netstat -an |find /i “LISTEN”

              2. Also check the connection using telnet (You will get blank screen )

              telnet localhost 1521

              3. Check your listener.ora has following entry

              LISTENER =
              (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
              (DESCRIPTION =
              (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
              (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
              )
              )

              DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)

              4. Restart the listener

              lsnrctl reload

              • mouldblal

                At the end when i tried to restart the listener, I’ve an error,

                C:>lsnrctl reload

                  • mouldblal

                    Thanks, I restrat it, bu i still not connected,

                    SQL>

                    • Govindan Padmanaban

                      Replace NTS with NONE in sqlnet.ora and try again

                      SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)

                    • mouldblal

                      I replaced NTS by NONE and I reload but the error still exist,

                      SQL> connect [email protected]
                      ERROR:
                      ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

                    • Govindan Padmanaban

                      What is your TNS_ADMIN?
                      Open CMD and input the following and check you hit tnsnames.ora file (for ex: C:…..tnsnames.ora)

                      echo %TNS_ADMIN%

                    • mouldblal

                      echo %TNS_ADMIN%
                      showed only
                      TNS_ADMIN

                    • Govindan Padmanaban

                      Create a windows environment variable TNS_ADMIN which points to your tnsnames.ora file like below. Open a new command prompt, and try again.

                    • mouldblal

                      Sorry i didn’t understand before.
                      I create the environment variable TNS_ADMIN as you said.

                      C:>echo %TNS_ADMIN%
                      C:WORKOracleoracleapporacleproduct11.2.0servernetworkADMINtnsnames.ora

                      but the error still the same,

                      SQL> connect [email protected]
                      ERROR:
                      ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

                    • Govindan Padmanaban

                      Im not sure what causing this issue. Try IDE like SQL-DEVELOPER to connect to your database instead of comman prompt .

                      1. SQL Developer Installation
